Work it!

The way that we define “work” and “office” has changed drastically of over the last two years. The pandemic has changed how we view the way that we work and where we work. Even though how we work has changed, some basic essentials to productive work spaces has not changed. This month’s design discussion is focusing on the essentials you need for your workspace, no matter if you are working in a traditional work environment or an unconventional workspace.

Ergonomic – Your productivity is attached to ergonomics! Making sure that you have everything you need for your body to be comfortable and functional in your work environment is priority. Taking into consideration that you are working more hours a day than any other activity means this needs to be at the top of your list! Having a foot rest to make sure you are sitting in a comfortable position. Having a desk chair that postures your body in an optimal position. Making sure the position of your monitor or laptop is correct for your body’s proportions will make your work experience so much better.

Indoor Air Quality – Having living plants in your work environment also has its benefits. The fresh air along with the added greenery to your scenery. Make sure that you take the time to purchase office furniture that will contribute to the wellness of your space. You want furniture that will not off-gas and slowly emit harmful chemicals into the atmosphere.

Flexibility – Do you have a workspace that allows for a variety in seating options or are you just restricted to your desk? Make sure you have a space that will allow for versatility to change how and where you work. Comfy seating, plenty of space to spread out, active furniture, etc.

Unconventional workspaces – Not everyone works well in the conventional desk set up. Having the option to move and choose different work areas makes for a more productive environment. In open and large office spaces, having alternative work spaces outside of your desk is crucial. A small change of scenery throughout the day makes a big difference. There are several desk options that allow for the flexibility to work in a prostrate position.
