Inspire Your Heart With Art: Artwork in Spaces

When you walk into your home, do you get the warm and cozy feeling that you’re going for? When you look around with an objective eye, are you seeing artistry that inspires you, and motivates you or are you looking at walls that lack personality? The art that you put in your home or office is one of the best ways to make a statement; to bring life and personality to your space. Art has power to transform a space, make it feel bigger, brighter, or warmer.

How Art Transforms

Art is an amazing conversation starter, it allows you to talk about intention, inspiration, and feeling. When you acquire a piece that has big pops of color, it creates a way for you to incorporate that color into your design for the room. Regardless of the style of artwork you gravitate towards, there are some amazing tips and tricks you can use to incorporate them into your space.

Choosing Artwork

Artwork is often what defines the personality of your space, so try starting with a piece that speaks to you and incorporates the colors, shapes, and feel you want to evoke. When you design around the art in your space, there is an aesthetic that you can continue to build on.

Another strategy is to hang groups of black and white artwork in a subject matter that appeals to you. This makes the focus of the room the subject instead of the color. An example of this might be black and white photography.

Artwork isn’t confined to framed pieces and elements that hang on the wall. Artwork can be integrated into the everyday pieces that you use for the rooms functionality. Adding accent pieces that are works of art such as sculpture, decorative lighting and unique furniture finds can broaden artwork in your home or office. As you choose your artwork, try to imagine the room it will be in, and anything else you may have in that room that you want to keep. For example, if you have neutral grey couches but a royal blue reading chair, perhaps a piece that has some royal blue in it would complement the space well.

Hanging Art Artfully

Hanging artwork is just as much an art as the artwork itself. Being strategic in how art is hung on the wall and where it is placed is key. It may seem like however you hang artwork doesn’t matter but when you hang it with purpose, it can make a huge difference. The first step is to ensure that the focal point of pieces on your wall are hung at eye level. If you are hanging a piece over or around furniture, you want to get it as close to eye level as possible. If you are working with gallery walls that you want to be traditional or symmetrical, try to ensure that there is equal space between each frame. Asymmetric gallery walls can also be visually stimulating. If you are looking for a contemporary spin, you may want to put a floating shelf on the wall where you can swap out artwork that speaks to you throughout the year. Doing this with layers of different size pieces can also be fun.
